On Thursday, we finished reading Wish Tree, by Katherine Applegate as a class. It is a beautiful story about friendship, tolerance, and kindness.
"I think we read this to treat everybody the same. It connects to our homeless work and "Equity."" ~ Gaby
"I think we read Wish Tree because it connects with what we're doing this year; it revolves around people. In Wish Tree, there was a girl named Maeve and a girl named Samar who came from other countries." ~ Abigail
"I think we read this book because there is a lot of racism. Some people aren't allowed into places because of their race. In the story, people don't like Samar because she's Muslim." ~ Jaxton
"I think this has to do with collaboration because they were all collaborating to save the tree." ~ Bianca
We took a pledge to be a welcoming class to people who are new and different.
We wrote a letter that we could give to a new student to make them feel welcome in our class.
