It's Plant-Ish!

Inspired by the book Ish by Peter Reynolds, our class tried blind contour drawings today. You have to keep your eyes off your page and keep your pencil on the whole time.

We learned:
"I learned that when you draw, you can't make it perfect." ~ Owen
"You don't have to make your drawing perfect all the time. You can also make it imperfect." ~ Des
"I learned that everybody's drawing is different. You can't say that something is bad. There's different opinions about art so you can't argue what's bad or good." ~ Jaxton
"No one can tell you what to draw; it's your choice." ~ Charlotte
"Draw what you feel and don't let other people take over your ideas." ~ Sophia

This fits with our ongoing discussions about What is Art? This week we have moved on to learning about Public Art: how it's chosen, how much money the city spends on it, who the artists are, and why we have public art.

"Public art is for everyone to see." ~ D
"There's lots of public art. Some of it is hidden and until someone points it out, like the manhole covers, you can't see it." ~ Priya
"Some things to you are art that aren't to other people like a chair." ~ Bianca
"Art can be different; that's what it's made for because we have different mindsets." ~ Desiree
"Art is a way for people to show emotion through a canvas, structure, or whatever they use to make art." ~ Jasper
"People use art to express their emotions and feelings." ~ Jaxton
"Art can be for making other people happy." ~ Priya
"Art can be for having fun doing it." ~ Jorja
